”Soon Dawnie,” she promised, “Really soon. It’ll just be an hour - two tops. Until then, we have to remember - mom doesn’t know. About me being the Slayer. That’s our little secret okay?” she leaned over and kissed Dawn’s forehead. “I won’t let anything happen to you, or mom. I’ll kill Angel first.” she promised.
The youngest Summers only nodded in reply. Despite her young age, Dawn still understood the importance of their mom not finding out that Buffy was the Slayer ; not yet, anyways.
“What if I leave Xander with you guys?” He wasn’t quite up to fighting with Angel, Buffy knew that - but she was sure Willow would manage to reverse Angel’s invitation. And until then Xander would make Dawn feel better.
“…Okay.”
Dawn was still beyond nervous, but the idea of having someone else around– – – - Xander especially– - made the whole ordeal seem a little less scary to her.
“You just… make something up Dawnie. Like you tell her you have to stay in to watch movies or help with your home work. Don’t worry. Willow is going to work a spell to keep everyone safe.”
"But what if– - what if it doesn’t work, and Angel comes back? What do I do then? I can’t protect Mom like you can!”
